From a cold, logical, financial standpoint she should keep her job.

Looking at it as a grandfather, she should have quit 12 months ago.

It will cost you something financially to have her home instead of working.  It will cost you and your child (children) something much more valuable for her not to be home.

I don't know your situation, but I can probably say "been there, done that, got the scars to prove it".  If there is any way possible to make it ... and that may mean drive older vehicles, not go out as much, don't really need the boat or other toys ... her place is at home.

Yeah, I'm old fashioned and proud of it.
