Subject: RE: Help me streamline my sprayer clean out process

Leesburg, Ohio
Your process seems overly complicated and over-done, with two things lacking: cleaning filters and flushing booms.
My process takes about 10 minutes each night.

I have a Cardinal Rule: never leave mix in the tank or boom overnight.
Following that rule takes a bit of planning, which is not that hard, to either come out even at the end of a field, or leave a partial field for later.

I always rinse out on the field, before leaving the last field of the day.

Here is my process:
1. Always use a pint of Dawn in every chem load.
2. Completely empty product tank on field. (Shut agitation off at about 75 gal left in product tank to cut down on foaming. Keep finger on pump switch when down to minimal gallons, and shut off pump as soon as pressure drops significantly.)
3. Run about 30-35 gal clean water from rinse tank thru rinse nozzles into product tank. (That is enough water so that booms are flushed through 4 times on two rinses.)
4. Start agitation and dump in about a pint or less of Dawn, OR tank cleaner, plus a squirt of defoamer.
5. Shut agitation off, and spray rinse solution out through booms onto field.
6. Repeat steps 3, 4, 5. (I normally rinse twice. If re-starting next morning with only minimal-residue products, sometimes I only rinse once. If using atrazine or similar hard-to-clean products, and changing crops, i rinse three times.)
7. If changing crops, clean filters, and uncap all boom section ends and flush booms, make sure boom ends are free of gunky residue.

I don't "blow booms out" with air...getting the air out when re-starting can be a pain, and can mess with rate consistency. I leave clean water, or clean water with Dawn in solution in the booms.

Hundreds of gallons for each rinse is a waste of water and time.

YMMV
