I use rail with shipping container loads so it may be a little different, they could have fees for loading and dumping the grain. I ship loads 2,500 miles that are only allowed to have 42,000 lbs on them for 7.5 cents a lb up .13 cents a lb in the Covid days. Lately it has been around 9 cents. I guess that gives you a range for how they bill. It normally takes about 10 days to receive a container when we book a ship date.

Curious what you are shipping?

So around $1.51 a mile for each container?

Or $5.04 per bushel of corn or $5.4 per bushel of beans for the 2500 mile haul.

42000# X $0.09 = $3780/2500 miles = $1.512/mile
