ETA...The 14th Amendment states, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and the State wherein they reside.” The amendment, enacted during Reconstruction, was designed to guarantee civil and legal rights to formerly enslaved individuals. The Supreme Court has since clarified that birthright citizenship applies to anyone born on U.S. soil, with limited exceptions such as children of foreign diplomats.
