South Central Illinois

Some will say,
The plant needs fed regardless of the final yield,
Some say a corn plant needs 200# of nitrogen per acre.
More under drought conditions,
Less under good conditions,
This includes the nitrogen from,
1) Organic matter, 8# per 1% OM IIRC,
2) Starter fertilizer,
3) Dry fertilizer,
4) Previous crop,
5) Other sources.
