| Hey guys! Bought some grass in late 2023 and They had some corrals I think his grandfather built in the 30s and then they rebuilt them out of pipe in the early 2000s. Love the design of them! Super simple. He bought yearlings, put them on grass and resold in the fall.
We have ran on the ground in 2024. Used the corrals 3 times on our cows and with our sheep and it was like pulling teeth to get them to run threw it. The sheep did fairly well running through it. But my God the cows and calves were like pulling teeth!! It just takes 1 to put their head down and lock up the breaks. Every time we had this issue and it was an all day fight. They always did it about 3 feet past that knife gate!! I had wondered if not being able to see strait down the allyway would help? We have a strait allyway at home and they do just fine, but it’s made out of smaller pipe and they can see out more. Not sure what’s got them locking up the breaks. Calves are as bad as the cows oddly. The Sheep just run through pretty well for the most part. It takes alot to piss them off.
I’d hate not to use those corrals. But if we need to change something we need to change it.
