Avoid US 2 in NE MT. World's most boring road. Absolutely nothing.
The badlands along I 94 and US 85 are good. Both national parks are as well, the north is way more rugged than the south. The North you can see fields and farms from it as well.
Makoshica or however it is spelt by Glendive is good as well.
