| Southeast of Billings is the Little Big Horn National battlefield. HIGHLY recommend that. There is a 2 lane highway that cuts from between there and Billings to Rapid City. It has much better scenery than the interstate.made the interstate route a few times, lots of Flat ground and oil wells.
Of course there is lots to do around Rapid City. Near Midland South Dakota there is a neat tourist trap 1880's style museum type town. Mitchell, SD has the Corn Museum.
I love Glacier NP, if they still have the Red bus tour. DO THAT! The Going to the Sun road is soo much more enjoyable when you can actually see the glaciers and have someone telling you about it.
ETA: Kalispell to Billings is a good days drive, Billings to Rapid City with a stop at Little Bighorn will be another good days drive.
I never realized how BIG the US was until I drove out west. i can hit most of the eastern seaboard in the same time it takes to get to the Butte, MT and still have another day of driving to hit the Pacific!
