Subject: Dairy history question.

We ranch in Ne colorado. A long ways from small dairy country. From what my great grandfather had told me, Back in the day every small stagecouch stop had a few homesteads that had a milk cows. I guess they Pulled grass out of the spare pastures and somehow got them in the silos. I was always curious what did they have for a roof?? I’ve seen a couple of these around our little town and a couple other little towns we have dotted around the map. I’ve never seen one with a roof on it. Here are just two examples.

I had wondered if they loaded them with a chain conveyor?? my granddad it has since passed away. But he remembered these silos being around when he was a kid sometime in the 30s or 40s. He would’ve been born in 1921.
