Subject: RE: Just a snap shot in time on the cost and problems with our immigration process

Historically the economic conditions are the principal driver in illegal migrations. When the economy is booming, more border crossings. Conversely a poor enough economy lowers illegal immigration. Maybe one component of the decline could be the change in administration corresponding economic climate

Data from the Pew Research Center shows that from the 1980s to 2000s, illegal immigration to the U.S. peaked when economic opportunities were strong—e.g., the U.S. construction boom in the 1990s drew millions from Mexico and Central America. The 2008 financial crisis reversed this trend, with net migration from Mexico turning negative as job prospects dwindled. By 2019, the undocumented population in the U.S. was estimated at 11 million, down from a 2007 peak of 12.2 million, reflecting economic slowdowns.

It is certainly not the only factor, but it does bear significance
