I dunno. Kind of depends on where your electrical box is. If you need to run wires down the center of the house, I'd prefer to make a "chase, out of 1x or 2x and run everything in that chase, then staple to the side of the joists going to wherever it's going. Alternatively, staple to the sides of the joists, and, otherwise, make the runs at the far outside near the eave, where it's out of danger, staple to the joists going across. This is much more fun in new construction above your head than crawling around doing a remodel. I hope this is somewhat clear. 



Not sure how much weight I want to have the staples carry

thinking might be better sitting on the ceiling truss

going with common sense not "code"
