Subject: Charging ideas and other uses

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
I've done something similar. I did something along this line with my Deere riding Lawn Mower. The mower came with a lighter type plug. For a while, I just used a lighter plug adapter to USB type A. I could then use a USB A to lightening cable to my iPhone. This wasn't the most reliable.

I found a USB type device that fit the lighter type socket and removed the original lighter plug. This results in a much more secure connection. Many of these have the higher current output needed for some tablets and phones.

This Spring, I purchased two phone holders with built in wireless battery charging capabilities. This is a clever design that has a built in motor and a pair of arms that grip the phone. I installed one of these in my old Quad tillage tractor. This provides a safe holding spot for the phone and charges it as necessary. I put my iPhone in it and use a pair of Apple Air Pods to listen to music from the iPhone. I can also talk through the Air Pods. This really works quite well although the Air Pods need to be recharged after several hours.

This week I noticed a baby Boom Box at the local Walmart. They were only $15 so I purchased one. These are labelled Altec Lansing. Obviously they don't have the sound quality of the Altec Lansing Voice of the Theatre speakers I have in my living room.

This is a Bluetooth device which produces a surprisingly decent sound for its size. It is charged via a USB C connector. My remaining phone holder with charging capabilities uses a USB C connector also.

I installed both the baby Boom Box and the remaining phone holder in my Polaris Ranger. The Ranger did not have any USB ports but did have two lighter type ports. I removed part of the dash and clipped the wires to one of the lighter plugs. I attached those wires to a USB type A connector. I then ran a USB A to USB C to the phone holder and the baby Boom Box. I drilled some holes in the dash to mount both the phone holder and the boom box. I installed the removed portion of the dash so I now have the small Boom Box and phone holder easily in reach.

This works surprisingly well although it is not studio sound by any means. Since I don't have a cab on the Ranger, it works best for stationary situations when the engine is not running. It is difficult to hear at highway engine speeds. For extended use such as rock picking with the engine running, I can still use my Air Pods instead.
