jtrees90 - 6/5/2025 23:14 Can you elaborate a little bit more as I don't see wasted feed adding to the manure. Most of the sites I see that are the best manure are usually wet dry feeders and farmer run sites or meticulously managed sites. Alot of it comes down to the water in the pit. That site that had 93lbs/1k had a moisture content of like 2-3%.

I'm not talking about wasted (uneaten) feed.    I'm talking about protein that is going through the pig undigested.     Protein in the pit is where the nitrogen comes from.

If you're the one buying the feed, that's a lot of expensive protein not being utilized by the pig, ie wasted.    If you're buying both the feed and the fertilizer for the field, it is cheaper to buy nitrogen for the crops in fertilizer form than it is to buy it as protein in feed.

You are absolutely correct about water in the pit being the biggest driver of manure concentration.     Water/feeder type along with frequency, severity and duration of water leaks and wash procedures make a huge difference.    But something more than good water/feeder management is going on to get nitrogen up to 90 lbs/1000 in hog manure.    It would be interesting to see what's in those feed rations.
