Nebraska aka the boondocks | The issue with most Nebraska soils is “usable” moisture available to the plant. In most areas in the west half of the state, you take soils holding and divide by two, which gives you three inches in top three feet. Not much when the plant needs water in late June to sept. In the eastern part of the state it’s closer to five usable inches. We simply can’t store wster in the soil like Iowa etc. that is why the freight maps have a lot of relevance here. |
