After conversation below on heifer retention thought I’d share this. Talked with good friend in eastern Kansas couple days ago. He’s probably been selling bulls 20 years, holding an auction for 11 or 12 years. 50 bulls through sale, probably 100-120 total for year. He said he’s never sold so many bulls got rebred cows in a spring. It’s coming boys hold on to your @$$
this isn't a new thing though happens year after year. I'm not saying it's not coming but high cull prices are still calling many older cows to town. I dropped the hammer and culled harder in the fall herds this time. Lot of value in that cow now as slaughter. Hold on to her for "just one more" and she might not be worth near as much next year. I'm just trying to enjoy this and not focus on what could happen.
