| I just had this exact scenario this year also. First year using a bin to store corn. Here is how my situation turned out. 42 ft bin put 22k bushel corn in. Moisture going into bin was 18-19%. Wasn't full and mostly leveled out on the top. Ran the 10hp fan as much as possible last fall and winter on the drier days and lower humidity. Loads came out this way:
6 loads end of January- 17-18% moisture(mostly 18)
6 loads end of February- 15.5-18% moisture (got drier as we kept pulling loads out)
3 loads to cone out bin in March- 14-15.5% moisture (pretty sure 2 loads were just straight 14%
2ish loads to clean out bin- 14% moisture on the nose(I'd bet they were 12% honestly)
What I would have done differently if I was worried about getting it all to a lower moisture was pull as much out as possible and start blending it back in as much as possible to try and get it to blend out. Could've probably got the whole bin to average 16% or less but it would've been a lot of moving and handling the corn. Hope this helps | |
