West Central Ohio | Being a heart attack survivor, I guess I have a vested interest in this kind of information.
One thing that took some time for me to grasp was the difference between soft plaques and hard plaques. He talks a bit about this around the 10:00 mark.
Soft plaques (mostly fatty deposits), like I have, are really the most dangerous because they can rupture and cause and sudden blockage. They also do not show up on a CAC scan.
Hard plaques (mostly calcium) can slowly progress over time but do not generally rupture so no sudden onset. Mostly just slowly progressing symptoms. They do show up on CAC scan.
Now the different causes and treatments for these two are way above my pay grade. And I don't think the medical community is total agreement or even has a complete understanding of the causes and treatments.
Nevertheless, I think it is important to differentiate between these two when discussing heart disease.
