EC Nebraska | I've been told that they're not getting as much heavy rain in the spring in some of the forest regions. And, without those heavy spring rains, the fires are overwintering in the forest litter and debris.
So as soon as it dries out after snow melt, the fires are back to burning again.
I suppose it's possible. We all know the fire can smolder in a stump/rootball for a long time. It takes a lot of rain to really soak up a forest like that. If they're not getting the rains, they just keep burning. | |
