SW Wisconsin | Primarily orchardgrass, with alfalfa and clover, is a nearly perfect pasture mix. Clip the heads off in June/ July to set it back to a vegetative state. 3 weeks is fine right now, but you'll want to slow it down. The orchardgrass pops up really quick, especially after any moisture. Keeping them on stuff that they've just eaten when it pops back like that is hard on it. I don't regret going from once a day moves to twice a day, but then again I'm milking twice a day so they're moving anyway. | |
