I would strongly advise against the SSS method. The authorities put collars on some, they’d know when and where it last location was. You’d have some explaining to do if on your property. It’s a felony. Do not take the chance, doubt your whole herd is worth as much as it would cost to keep you out of jail, let alone the embarrassment of being in the papers/news. Wouldn’t be good.
If you came across a collar couldn't you attach it to something else or put the animal in a stream/river and let it float on downstream?
