NEMO | Kind of a side conversation, but times sure have changed. When I was growing up, my grandma and her twin sister sought out blackberries to pick, it was one of their favorite times of year. They would put an old dress on, pantyhose, a long sleeve shirt and a big wide brimmed hat. They figured the more covered they were, the less ticks and poison ivy. Imagine them dressed like that in brutal heat in the tangled brush and weeds. I don't think they did anything they enjoyed more. Of course, my Mom was better than that and didn't participate in the adventure. My grandma was one of 10 towards the young end of the family. The blackberries were a valuable free food source and they were a treat for the family. Blackberry cobblers and jelly are favorites here. I get out and pick enough for my pretty bride to make me some jelly that gets enjoyed all winter on my toast
