Central PA | bad idea to use a 40a breaker on a 12 guage circuit unless you want a fire.
20a is suffiecient if the pump motor is good.
i suspect a faulty pump motor or wire shorting on well cassing. check the motor amps with the water system pumping an open 1" line, no head pressure. should be in the 5a range. and yes check the amps with a clampon meter on both legs of the 240v. if different, you have a wire shorting to ground, or inside the pump. | |
