Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | I'm not in your exact situation but I've also found that starting with a blank but formatted USB stick is useful sometimes.
At times, I have noticed mysterious files or folders appear on a stick after doing something with a display device or computer and I don't know where they came from or their purpose By starting with a blank but formatted stick, it is easier to decide "where they came from" and possibly "what they do".
