Crossing the Mississippi on I94 is probably a bit more scenic than crossing at PDC. Plus faster for the overall trip.
If you drive up WI and the UP and over the bridge on the way there can you take one of the car ferry boats back across lake Mich from MI to WI? Try and keep Chicago out of the loop both ways then. Would be a cool experience and skip that hell of traffic in Chicago area
