NWC Ohio | In reality, it’s totally possible that only 1 drive dog is actually engaged and driving the shaft even with 4 drivers. You see the spacing of the drive dogs and teeth in the gears? Every time you turn each ground drive wheel travels a different distance, hence turning the drive dogs different amounts. That’s the clicking you hear while turning is the drive dogs that are going slower than the fastest turning drive (farthest traveling wheel). As long as you have one driving in the left and one driving in the right I wouldn’t worry about fixing it.
If you do decide to fix it proper, just get all new parts from Shoup or Pequa planter and do it all right. As mentioned, rebuild the clutch while you’ve got it all apart. | |
