We have cut our number of loads in half by doubling the amount of grain we haul per load. It has really helped reduce wear and tear on our county gravel roads. All loads are hauled one time during the heat of summer to the area elevators so we never handle again during the rest of the year. Even being able to run fewer, nicer trucks it is still a challenge to find enough truck drivers during harvest. Availability of help has sure changed a lot on the last 6 years.
Yep I went from 400bu loads 50 mile round trip at 30 mph to +900 bu at 60 mph for 76 mile round trip getting +$.15 bu more.
I rather doubt the road wear increased much if I hauled 90k over 80k |
