More likely wear out from less use. Believe it or not, crap gets sticky and after prolonged sitting will seize up a little. Mine is set to run more frequently.

Same as a household tile pump. My last one actually wore a whole in the plastic housing. They may pump properly in/out of a bucket in testing but most are lifting it 4-10ft to get out of a basement or tank. Wore out may struggle to do it. Our province is a swap even in droughts. I keep spare pumps
