It would be valid for a short/medium term test, but I would not want to leave it that way since the wire and/or the pump motor is now the fuse/breaker. Yes, I know a breaker Should catch a short circuit, but in the real world it just doesn't always work that way. Especially when working with old, ratty/dusty breakers.
