I agree, more weight per load reduces trips and traffic. Think about this. 20,000# on a single axle, 34,000 on a closed tandem, or 48,000# on 3 closed axles. But here for a $200 permit those axles can magically carry 24,000# each. Yes I know more weight causes faster road deterioration. I work in major road construction. I few simple changes would make the roads around here last a lot longer.
