West Central Illinois | It sounds like you haven't made a complete rotation across the new farm so a little early to call it a success or failure. My experience so far with new leased farms that were continuous grazed forever is the first year of rotational grazing you end up growing about 15-20% more forage than before in similar weather years. Each year after a little better.
Some guys graze really tight and graze it down low with really long rest periods in between and not saying that doesnt work but it seems a little more complex than just aiming for grazing 50% of the grass down and moving based on that. In the spring try to go across the farm and be back to the first paddock you started at in around 30 days. The rotations after that aim for more like 45 to 60 days. You'll know it's ready to graze a paddock once the leaf tips of the grass are grown back pointed again and not squared off from being grazed
