Subject: Interesting discussion on truck size/weight

Penn Yan, NY
I found this video to be pretty interesting. The consensus seems to be that carrying more per truck, providing that the trucks can do so safely, is more efficient and better for the environment. It also seems that no one is taking about increasing the federal weight cap from 80,000lbs. Why not?

We get Canadian trucks in several times per year and they usually bring in 40-42t net loads. They run 4 axles on most trailers but we occasionally see a 5 axle. These trucks were the first place I saw air disc brakes. I’d much prefer to handle fewer trucks that carry more each.

Oh, and there’s a general shortage of drivers leading to some pretty unqualified operators on the roads. Wouldn’t it make more sense to let good operators haul more and not need so many of the sub par ones?
