 northeastern Ohio | If the motor is rated for 5 amps at 240 volts, and you have 10 amps then there is a problem. The problem may be the motor, or you might have a bad connection that is allowing most voltage to go through one wire instead of both.
I always start with a new pressure switch. The points burn up eventually. Then re-test. You could do the same with the breaker.
If the problem persists, then look at the wires going down the casing. My sister called me one day and said she didn't have water. It would trip the breaker instantly. Pulled the pump and put a new one on. As I lowered it into the well, I noticed one of the hot wires had the insulation rubbed off. It had been arcing against the casing.
If the wires check out, then you are probably looking at a bad pump motor. | |
