Subject: 1/2 HP submersible pump throwing breaker.

Southeast Colorado
It'll run for a while and then throw the breaker. I'm trying to decide if I've got a weak breaker, or a bad pump. Hooking my amp meter loop around each wire shows about 10 amps...........and it holds there clear until the breaker trips. When I look up online, it shows I should be pulling 5 amps at 240 volts, or 10 amps at 120 volts. I know each wire to my pump will test 120 volts back to ground.........and 240 volts when testing from one wire to the other. So is my amp reading correct?...........or too high??
