West Central MN | In the land of square half mile long fields, everything is well matched to that length of pass such as combine hopper and grain cart capacity. Don't think it matters much beyond lost time of turning time for other operations.
Looking at past data, one of the biggest efficiency losses here is refilling the planter with seed and fertilizer. Many Springs our soil conditions are borderline too wet and loading the planter half full to save compaction, requiring twice as many refills, cuts effective acres per hour by 50%. Ideal would be a planter that holds enough seed and fertilizer to cover 155 acres on one fill and hover off the ground for zero compaction. That and cross-pollinate corn with lily pads. | |
