| I currently have a JD 7000 6 row corn planter that I have been using to plant my 250 acres of corn and soybeans. I recently have picked up another 100 acres. Due to the additional acres added, I was unable to get all my ground planted before this rain. I feel I could have got it done if I had a larger planter. I'm thinking I may need a bigger planter to get my crops in more quickly going forward.
I really like my 7000 and can find 12 row 7000's cheap enough. The question is, if I am going to upgrade should I be looking for a newer series of corn planter? I have a 120hp FWA tractor that I would use on the planter. I generally do not place fertilizer with the planter.
Is there an advantage or reason that a guy should be looking for a planter newer than a 7000? I am fine with finger pickups, I don't feel I need or want to go to a vacuum planter. Honestly this 6 row 7000 has done all I need it to do, it just isn't getting it done quick enough.
