My doctor is against psa tests for me. I am 74 and I insist on having them. He and a lot of doctors seem to think at my age prostate cancer won't kill you before something else does. I have/had friends that know differently. One thing I learned is I do have a tendancy to get urinary tract infections once or twice a year. Sitting in a tractor or truck will do that to you. I learned years ago that a urologist does what they do and look for cancer ad nauseum. My psa spiked ten years ago after a trip back from AZ. We finally decided on a course of antibiotics and that lowered my psa back to normal. It has stayed level since then but I know when a urinary tract infection is coming on. I have an ample supply of amoxicillan(mexico) on hand for times like that. Just had my annual and everything looked good. Lot of self diagnosis but I do what I have to do.
