Subject: RE: Prostate cancer misconceptions

I had prostrate cancer at age 56 where it can be really agressive when you're younger like that. PSA went from under 4.0 to 4.13 and the Dr. sent me to a urologist. There it tested 4.3. He recommended a biopsy and said there was a 1 in 6 chance that it was cancer, but, he said, if it is we'll have missed the chance to treat it early. Had the biopsy (don't remember it being all that bad an experience) and he found some cancer. Had surgery and now 25 years later i'm cancer free. My friend, about the same age, had his psa go up but waited too late. Had surgery in June, it was in his bones by September and he couldn't walk, had radiation but died a year later after a lot of suffering. I'm so glad I got that biopsy after my psa started creaping up or I would have been long gone.
