Subject: RE: Will spiking Status with Dicamba safen it?

NC KS
This is a copy and paste from my BASF rep. The DFFP does not kill weeds by itself but makes the dicamba work much better. Distinct is the same as Status EXCEPT for the crop safener.
The copy and paste also provides some answers to the original poster's question. Bottomline is-Do you feel lucky? Status by itself and right weather conditions can aid in greater green snap damage. Adding more dicamba to Status ups that risk. If you can escape a high wind for a week after application, you might not green snap.

All,

Please see the below Notes from the Field from my Tech Rep Katie Strathman, this is some VERY GOOD info to understand and hopefully keep from having any problems.

One more note I will add, over the past 4-5 years we are seeing an increase in antagonism when tankmixing Status with any mesotrione product when it comes to controlling PALMER. I still believe meso does a good job as a pre, but DO NOT recommend it in combo with Status post.

As crops, and weeds, get bigger, questions concerning Status® Herbicide tank mixes tend to arise. Two common questions and their respective answers are as follows:

Can I mix Status with a premix or solo product containing another group 4, growth regulator, herbicide? (ie. Resicore®, Stinger®, 2,4-D, dicamba, fluroxypyr)

No. Status Herbicide contains two actives: dicamba and diflufenopyr (DFFP) as well as an additional component, a crop safener. The ratio of these three components has been fine-tuned to maximize crop safety and weed control. The role of DFFP is to concentrate auxins, either naturally occurring or from growth regulator herbicides like dicamba, 2,4-D, and fluroxypyr, at the growing points of treated weeds resulting in quicker, more complete broadleaf weed takedown. Adding additional auxin-type herbicides does increase weed control and is something we typically recommend in fallow with Distinct® Herbicide, Status’s unsafened counterpart; however, in crop, additional growth regulator can result in irreversible crop response.

Can I mix Status Herbicide with a group 15, residual, herbicide?

It depends. When tank mixing Status with group 15 herbicides the formulation of the group 15 product dictates if it can be tank mixed with Status. Group 15 herbicides formulated as emulsifiable concentrates (EC) can cause irreversible crop response when tank mixed with Status. Examples of EC group 15 herbicides include but are not limited to: Outlook®, Dual II Magnum®, Harness®, and Surpass®. Group 15 herbicides of other formulations such as Zidua® SC are widely used.

The restriction on EC formulations may bring to question the use of oil-based adjuvants. Please note, herbicide formulation and adjuvants are two separate tank mix components. Herbicide formulations consist of active and inactive or inert ingredients, for the purpose of providing a physically usable product. Adjuvants are necessary in tank mixes to activate herbicides. That said, MSO is still necessary for Status tank mixes in Kansas unless otherwise advised by your local BASF representative.
