Nebraska, The land of corn and cattle | hillfarmer - 5/17/2025 07:27 Thank you for the ideas the stud and set screw that twists off is a bad combo
Ya Im not a fan of the set screw, but I think it was better than the roll pins from earlier models, JD included. I got to where I heat the end of the arm up and let it cool down, then I try, if it doesnt come then I just heat it up. But Ive still welded alot of nuts on those screws, had a couple I had to junk cuz I couldnt get them apart. I bought a few used arms and now I have a set ready to go and then put the inserts in the set I took off as I have time. When I did it I wasnt sure the head of the bolt would clear on the inside so I went the insert way and just kept doing it that way.
You might need a spacer between the bearing and the arm, I use a 5/8 lock washer. Ive changed them over and have the same tire clearance using the washer as I did before.
A cheap source of the wheels are JD guys, they are using the tire to scrape the disk, and it eats the inside of the tire out, but its cheaper to buy the whole assembly than just the tire from JD, not to mention the time it takes to change the tire, so often they have a whole pallet. I bought more than I needed for $5 a pair, I just need to change the tires.
