MO | Forgive me ...I've only lived in a non desert environment for 2.5 years...moved from 10" to 40" rainfall...and so far this spring we've already had close to 20" and another several coming next 2 days and several more predicted for end of week.
I have a field of perennial ryegrass/clover mix that I have used for hay. It's been too wet to get on it and the forecast is looking like it will be at least 2 more weeks before we could lay it down. Already heading out. grass is 3-3.5' tall and starting to lay down. I could put about 900 ewes on it (60 acres) and get across it in 3 weeks. Ground is creek bottom.
Just curious what y'all would do. I could use the grazing to bridge the gap to crabgrass but not sure if the sheep would mat it down even moving them on small blocks daily. Not used to this issue in the desert | |
