SE Iowa | We are faced with the same issues, dad used to have 200 ewes or so, down to about 50 is all. His first cousin used to have around 4-500 and he’s down to 150-200. Both dad and his cousin have 10 years absolute max of shearing ability left..All 3 of us shear together and it still takes a week as we only have enough time to get together 3-4 hours a day with everything else going on. I keep telling them Im not shearing everyone’s by myself lol, we are virtually the only people within 100 miles that shear, I know of only one other guy and he is way too busy to take anymore on. We are basically slowly moving out of the sheep business unfortunately unless we could find someone to do it, we are going to be out in a few years. I don’t want hair sheep that’s just a goat lol. | |
