When we went around 2012 we got ahold of our senator's office months before (so they could do a thorough background check) and they got us toured tix to white house, capitol, Pentagon, SCOTUS, Library of Congress and Arlington. Really made the trip. Probably going to be hard to do over july 4. Maybe stay after holiday when many might go home.
