East Central Nebraska | I am similar as you. I have a 2003 Chevy 1/2 ton with a flat bed. I backed the truck into the disc several years ago and damaged my tail gate and bumper and was pretty rusted out anyway. I really like it but depends what I am doing. For gooseneck work, it is handy, just got to remember you capability on it. It only gets hooked on to it in a blue moon too. I have a steel bradford on mine. I like that brand as it has flip up 4" sides on it that you can pull a lever and quickly unfold and a slot to add a board towards the fron and on the rear to keep stuff from sliding off. I would not want one without some type of side. The steel bed was still a little lighter than my box. I jacked my front torsion bars up to marry up the height in the front. I also had a bad leaf spring and when I replaced them, I added an extra leaf in and made it a heavy 1/2. There are a few guys running around our area with 1/2 ton trucks and flatbeds. They make the beds for any size but I think you'd have to stick with what your box was or you'd have to modify the frame. Best to go see the folks that sell them and discuss and see what you like. Farm shows usually is a great place to compare them. I also put the under tool boxes on Makes great storage. | |
