I don't know how long a good pair of side cutters or (previously mentioned) hoof nippers would last, but if you "score" or "crease" the nail next to the wood, a pair of vice grips on the shank to bend the nail back and forth should make it break close enough that a grinding wheel would smooth the broken stub out.
