| My midi excavator goes about 3 mph but can be hauled on a trailer behind 3/4 ton pickup. I can also load the excavator without ramps so moving it across the field isn't that big of a deal and then I have extra tools and fittings along in the pickup too. Sure it would be nice to just swing a seat and drive fast, but once I get there, I would still have to swing the seat again, put down stabilizers and get into position. With the excavator, I just drive up and dig and move along the trench with no trouble at all.
If you have a lot of dirt to push or carry, then a backhoe is better, but we just bring the skid steer for those jobs. If you are mainly digging trenches, then excavator all the way. | |
