E.Central MN | Yeah, they said it was too hard on the people that were brought in to help unload stuff from people's vehicles and then load the tires into trucks. (A lot of the labor was supposedly provided by people who needed to do community service as a condition of their jail sentences.) Why load tires by hand to begin with? And why only have one of those events for 4 hours on a single day of the year? (they don't even do that anymore.) Doesn't the county own excavators and payloaders? I guess I'm guilty of thinking that some of our tax money and the money supporting the county household hazardous waste facility (which comes from the fees trash haulers pay to the landfill) should be spent on providing a solution to things like tire collection, etc. But no, a while back the manager of the facility shut it down to the public for a few days because (OMG) somebody put some foam packaging material into one of their bins....so what exactly are people supposed to do with that stuff? I get that recycling isn't a very glamorous job, it doesn't always have to make money. I wish the various agencies posted an annual statement of how much money they received and what they spent most of it on. | |
