| The only downfall of Deere in that era is the head. Specifically the knife setup to cut the stalk of corn. Way over complicated it with shafts, bearings and tie rods. The two row isn’t as bad as the 3 row. As far as the chopper itself, keep oil in the gearboxes and grease it regularly. We run 150 plus acres a year on an old 3960 and have only replaced common wear parts to this point 10 years later. No kernel processor here as we aren’t feeding dairy cows. As with anything new, there is a learning curve. However, the wealth of knowledge on this site can get a guy pointed in the right direction and running again in no time. | |
