Unless you have an automatic transmission, or there’s some reason the engine cannot rotate, I would air up the brakes, release them and then pull it flat in a gear that rotates the engine at a reasonable rpm so you have power steering and are building air for brakes.

I do that for any old tractors that don’t have hydraulic clutch or powershift. If the engine is spinning, I’ve got steering and brakes. Just have to remember not to push in the clutch! Had a kid do that as we came up to a turn-off one day. He had a little steering on the old 3020 Deere, but no brakes! Good I wasn’t pulling him along that fast, so we made the Y all right as he came up alongside the pickup, but had to stop and explain again the importance of not using the clutch.

The ones that there is a reason the engine or trans can’t rotate are more difficult.
