We had a JD 3970 in late 80's to replace a self propelled FOX. Had a few problems with it, but overall it was decent.

In the late 90's I wanted a kernal processor. Bought a Lancaster conversion kit and installed it on the 3970. Found out it was a bad design. Plugged all the time. Worst thing I ever bought. Tried to make it work for 2 years and finally gave up.

Bought a 1996 FX25 NH self propelled and then later bought a FX58. Still running both today, but many parts are NLA. I have sourced some parts from the original manufacturers in Europe. But the day is coming when I won't be able to keep them going.

If you buy anything built prior to 2000, you better buy two. Dealers of either color don't stock parts like they used to, so you may be down for days.
