Bromoynil, not bronate could knock the kochia back a bit, alfalfa is fairly tolerant after development of crown the first year. Not very familiar with sainfoin. Have heard it is fairly tolerant of bromxynil but have no personal experience.

Note that very seldom would you get what would be called kochia control from bromoxynil in a carpet situation, but would reduce shading.
